Elektrisch nach Island? Und dann noch mit einem Motorrad? Kann man damit überhaupt so weit fahren?

„Wie weit kannst Du damit fahren?“ – „Wie lange dauert das Aufladen?“ – „Wie teuer ist das?“ sind die frei häufigsten Fragen, die ich höre, wenn ich mit meinem Elektromotorrad ankomme. Um die ersten Fragen gleich zu beantworten: Um die 140 km Minimum und das Laden dauert mit meiner jetzigen Ausrüstung ca. 1 h 15 min.

Das sind natürlich Bedingungen, die jeden „normalen“ Motorradfahrer von so einer Tour abbringen würden. Aber genau das reizt mich, solange die Elektromobilität für die meisten noch nicht selbstverständlich ist. In dieser Reise steckt sehr viel Planungsaufwand. Das Motorrad habe ich seit Sommer 2016, um damit flexibler zur Arbeit zu kommen. Das mit dem „elektrisch“ war eigentlich nur der zweite Gedanke, aber ein guter Einstieg in die Elektromobilität. Im März 2017 machte ich erstmals eine größere Tour von Stuttgart in die Niederlande zu einer großen „E-Mobil-Parade“. Bei dieser Tour bin ich dann auf den Geschmack gekommen, auch mal lange Strecken zu fahren. Das muss aber wegen der Reichweite und den Ladepausen jedesmal gut geplant werden.

Mit Mercedes G und Ford Mustang in Island (2010)

Seit 2003 bin ich 20 mal in Island gewesen, meistens mit meinem Geländewagen, einem  Mercedes G. Im Jahr 2010 gab es dann eine besondere Reise mit einem Ford Mustang (Modell 2006). Damals lernte ich den Mustang Club Island kennen und wurde zur Motor Show im Rahmen der „Autotage“ in Akureyri eingeladen.

Deshalb entstand die Idee, als Erster mit einem Elektromotorrad eine Islandreise zu machen. Einer der Höhepunkte wird wieder die Teilnahme an der Motor Show am 17. Juni 2018 in Akureyri sein. Ich bin bereits in Kontakt mit den Organisatoren.

Electrically to Iceland? And then with a motorcycle? Can you drive that far?

„How far can you drive?“ – „How long does it take to charge?“ – „How expensive is it?“
That are the most common questions I hear when I arrive with my electric motorcycle. To answer the first questions directly: About 140 km minimum range and charging within 1 h 15 min with my current equipment.

These are of course conditions that would dissuade any „normal“ motorcyclist from such a tour. But that’s what interests me as long as electric mobility is not self-evident to most. There is a lot of planning involved in this trip. On the pages ► Tour planning you can see how I planned every day.

This blog reports about my preparations and the trip to Iceland with an electric motorcycle. Actually I bought the bike in summer 2016 to get more flexible to work. The „electrically“ was actually only the second thought, but a good entry into the electric mobility. In March 2017 I made a bigger tour from Stuttgart to the Netherlands. There was a big e-mobile parade. On this tour it became interesting for me, sometimes to drive even long distances. However, this must always be well planned with the range and the charging breaks.

With a Mercedes G Model and a Ford Mustang in Iceland (2010)

Since 2003 I’ve been to Iceland 20 times, mostly with my off-road vehicle Mercedes G-class. In 2010, I made a special trip with a Ford Mustang (model 2006). At that time, I met people from the Mustang Club Island and was invited to the Motor Show (Bílasýning) during the „Car Days“ (Bíladagar) in Akureyri.

So the idea came up to be the first, who makes a trip to Iceland with an electric motorcycle. One of the highlights will be again to participate in the Motor Show (Bílasýning)on June 17, 2018 in Akureyri. I am already in contact with the organizers.
