10 – 12: Westfjords → Akureyri

Heute gibt es wieder eine lange Strecke, denn ich muss möglichst weit nach Osten kommen. 260 bis 290 km sind zu fahren, abhängig davon, wo ich den ersten Ladestopp mache. Die Strecke heute ist eher eine Verbindungsetappe, die mich aber trotzdem durch ein paar schöne Fjorde und dann zurück auf die Ringstraße führt. ► Die Etappe in Google-Maps.

• Ich starte vom Hotel Flókalundur und fahre dann einige Fjorde aus.
• Abhängig von meiner Restreichweite muss ich unterwegs entscheiden, wo ich den ersten Ladestopp mache. Diese Möglichkeiten habe ich mir ausgesucht:
  – Hotel Bjarkalundur auf der [60] nach 116 km,
  – ein Abstecher nach Reykhólar, das ich nach 131 km erreichen würde oder
  – Hotel Ljósaland nach 141 km auf der [60].
  Die Fahrt nach Reykhólar würde einen Umweg von 30 km bedeuten, allerdings gibt es dort ein schönes Museum über die sinnvolle Nutzung der Natur („Gifts of nature“). So könnte ich die Ladezeit sinnvoll verbringen.
• Der nächste Lademöglichkeit ist dann schon an der Ringstraße. Die große Tankstelle N1 Staðarskáli hat auch eine Ladesäule. Bis hierher sind es von den 3 Varianten oben 109 km (Bjarkalundur), 123 km (Reykhólar) oder 84 km (Ljósaland).
• Die Reststrecke zur Unterkunft in Hvammstangi ist allerdings nur noch 34 km, so dass ein kurzer Ladestopp reicht bzw. gar nicht nötig ist.

Tag 11, Freitag, 15. Juni 2018

Heute fahre ich hauptsächlich auf der Ringstraße im Norden. Die Zeit und Reichweite des Elektromotorrads reicht auch für einen Abstecher zur schönen Felsformation Hvítserkur. Dann geht es weiter nach Osten mit einem Zwischenstopp im bekannten Glaumbær und seinem Museum. Weiter geht es nach Norden zum Skagafjörður bis zum Zielort.

• Nachdem ich von Hvammstangi die Ringstraße erreicht habe, geht es da nach 7 km gleich wieder ab und über die [711] nach Norden bis zum Felsen Hvítserkur. Der Ausflug bedeutet für mich etwa 55 km Umweg auf unbefestigter Straße .
• Die nächste Lademöglichkeit habe ich dann in Blönduos nach einer Gesamtstrecke von 104 km. Laden muss ich nur für 95 km Reststrecke.
• Glaumbær ist die nächste Zwischenstation 58 km nach Blönduos.
• Über das schön gelegene Sauðárkrókur fahre dann auf die andere Seite des Skagafjörður und erreiche nach 37 km die Unterkunft.
• Übernachtung: Sunnuberg Guesthouse, Hofsos.

Tag 12, Samstag, 16. Juni 2018

Die letzte Etappe vor dem großen Ereignis und Ziel dieser Tour: Am Nachmittag will ich in Akureyri sein, wo bereits die „Autotage“ stattfinden. Im Rahmen dieser Veranstaltung bin ich eingeladen an der „Motor Show“ in der Sporthalle teilzunehmen. Hier war ich bereits 2010 mit meinem gelben Ford Mustang Bj. 2006. Und nun komme ich nochmal mit einem amerikanischen Fahrzeug in gelb. Diese Tagesetappe habe ich für eine frühe Ankunft möglichst kurz gehalten.

• Nach 74 km Fahrt nach Norden erreiche ich Siglufjörður, einen meiner Lieblingsorte in Island. Die Lage ist traumhaft. Früher war der Ort ein Geheimtipp, weil er nur über einen großen Umweg zu erreichen war. Seit Herbst 2010 gibt es zwei neue Tunnel, die eine direkte Verbindung nach Dalvík und Akureyri ermöglichen. In Siglufjörður werde ich Freunde besuchen und die Zeit auch zum Nachladen des Motorrads nutzen.
• Durch die beiden Tunnel Héðinsfjarðargöng (3,9 km und 7,1 km) fahre ich weiter nach Ólafsfjörður. Dann kommt noch ein Tunnel (Múlagöng, 3,4 km) und an dessen Südportal erreiche ich einen für mich historischen Ort: Auf dem Parkplatz neben der Tunneleinfahrt beobachteten wir 2003 die ringförmige Sonnenfinsternis. Diese war damals der Anlass für meine erste Islandreise.
• Ich erreiche Akureyri nachmittags nach einer Tagesstrecke von insgesamt 150 km. Nun habe ich noch genug Zeit mich mit um den Aufbau der Ausstellung in der Sporthalle zu kümmern und erste Kontakte zu knüpfen.
• Übernachtung: Akureyri Hostel, nicht weit vom Veranstaltungsort der Motor Show.

Die Tage 10 – 12 in der Detailplanung

Die folgenden 3 Bilder zeigen meine Detailplanung der Tagesetappen als Exceltabelle (auf ein Bild klicken!). So habe ich eine Abschätzung, was an den einzelnen Tagen möglich ist. Dabei wurde immer großzügig angenommen, ich komme erst um 10:00 Uhr morgens los, hier steckt also schon mal eine Zeitreserve drin (oder ein entspannter Tagesbeginn).  Für jede Teilstrecke sind dann nochmal zwei Zeitreserven drin: Eine angenommene Durchschnitts-Geschwindigkeit von 65 km/h und dann nochmal aufgerundet in der Spalte „Verwendete Fahrzeit“.

Day 10, Thursday, 14th June 2018

Today there’s again a long distance, because I have to go as far east as possible. 260 to 290 km are to drive depending on where I make the first charge stop. The route today is more of a liaison, but still leads me through some beautiful fjords and then back to the ring road.

• I start from the hotel Flókalundur and then drive along some fjords.
• Depending on my remaining range I have to decide on the way, where I make the first charge stop. I chose these options:
  – Hotel Bjarkalundur on the [60] after 116 km,
  – a detour to Reykhólar, which I would reach after 131 km or
  – Hotel Ljósaland which is 141 km away on the [60].
  The drive to Reykhólar would mean a detour of 30 km, but there is a nice museum about the wise use of nature („Gifts of Nature“). So I could spend the charge time meaningful.
• The next charging option is already on the ring road. The large petrol station N1 „Staðarskáli“ also has a charging station. Till here the distances of the 3 variants above are, 109 km (Bjarkalundur), 123 km (Reykhólar) or 84 km (Ljósaland).
• The remaining distance to the accommodation in Hvammstangi, however, is only 34 km, so that a short charging stop is sufficient or not necessary.

Day 11, Friday, 15th June 2018

Today I drive mainly on the ring road in the north. The time schedule and the range of my electric motorcycle allows also a trip to the beautiful rock formation Hvítserkur. Then I head east with a stopover in the famous Glaumbær and its museum. Continue north to Skagafjörður to today’s destination.

• After reaching the ring road from Hvammstangi, after about 7 km I turn over to road [711] north to the rock Hvítserkur. The trip for me means about 55 km detour on unpaved road.
• The next charging opportunity I have in Blönduos after a total distance of 104 km. I have to load only for 95 km remaining distance.
• Glaumbær is the next stop 58 km after Blönduos.
• Drive through the beautifully situated Sauðárkrókur to the other side of the Skagafjörður and arrive at the accommodation after 37 km.

Day 12, Saturday, 16th June 2018

The last stage before the big event and destination of this tour: In the afternoon I want to be in Akureyri, where already the „Bíladagar“ take place. As part of this event I am invited to participate in the „Motor Show“ (Bílasýning) in the sports hall. Here I was already in 2010 with my yellow Ford Mustang (built 2006). And now I’m coming again with an american vehicle in yellow. I have kept this stage short for an early arrival.

• After 74 km driving north I reach Siglufjörður, one of my favorite places in Iceland. The location is fantastic. In the past the place was an insider tip, because it could only be reached by a long detour. Since autumn 2010, there are two new tunnels that allow a direct connection from Dalvík and Akureyri. In Siglufjörður I will visit friends and use the time to reload the bike.
• Through the two tunnels Héðinsfjarðargöng (3.9 km and 7.1 km) I continue to Ólafsfjörður. Then through another tunnel (Múlagöng, 3.4 km) and at the south portal I reach a historical place for me: In the parking lot next to the tunnel entrance we observed the annular solar eclipse in 2003. This was the reason for my first Iceland trip.
• In the afternoon I reach Akureyri after a total distance of 150 km. Now I have enough time to take care of the construction of the exhibition in the sports hall and make first contacts.
• Accommodation: Akureyri Hostel, not far from the Motor Show venue.

Days 10 – 12 in detailed planning

The following 3 pictures show my detailed planning of the daily stages as an Excel spreadsheet (click on a picture). So I have made an estimation of what is possible on each day. I generously assumed to leave only at 10:00 clock in the morning, so I have already a time reserve here (or a relaxed start of the day). For each leg there are again two time reserves in it: An assumed average speed of 65 km/h and then rounded up again in the column „used travel time“.
